PARTNERSHIP ACROSS THE WORLD CHARITABLE ENDEAVOUR

The International Guild of Nurses and Carers is not a registered charity at this moment in time. At some point we may progress along this route and we reserve that option. Having said this we do recognise that we really do need to extend our membership to some of the poorest nations in the world to nurses who are doing wonderful work and cannot possibly afford to pay the level of membership fees appropriate to the more prosperous nations.

With this in mind we have found that some very kind members have included a small donation over and above their membership fee to help fund membership for nurses in our worlds poorer nations. All monies received in this fashion are ring fenced and properly accounted for for that purpose. So in the event that any member knows of any worthy nurse in a less prosperous nation who would wish to become a member of the guild but cannot afford to do so then do let us know via our web site contact page in which circumstance we will do all that we can do to help within our very limited budget.

Please click here to read the note about pen friends on our home page and do look out for our membership badge wherever you travel; you may be surprised where it turns up and when you see it introduce yourself to the wearer, you may have found a new friend.

PEN FRIENDS

In the 1950s, 60s, 70s right through to the 80s it was quite common for people to have a pen friend aboard. Many of these friendships have endured a lifetime but sadly this practice has fallen by the wayside.

The guild is now keen to promote a new form of pen friendship via email which would be a marvellous tool for members everywhere in making friends and widening horizons.

We feel that it would be wonderful if our members gave up a small amount of their time to exchange an email with a carer or nurse from another country where nurses and carers feel isolated and undervalued.

The exchange of ideas and expertise could make one of our colleagues an ocean apart feel that they were part of something far bigger and lives may be saved as a result of initiatives started via such friendships.

Members wishing to find a contact overseas may contact the guild for advice.
